When I was looking for a dessert to make for last weekend’s grill out, I flipped through my index card box and came across the recipe for Four Layer Dessert. It’s such a light and refreshing dessert, and was the perfect compliment to our grill out.
I apologize for the lack of step-by-step pictures. It crossed my mind that taking pictures throughout the course of making the cake might be helpful….of course, that was after I finished making the dessert!
Four Layer Dessert Recipe
First Layer:
1-1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup chopped nuts (I used pecans)
1-1/2 sticks butter, softenedCombine. Press into a 9″x13″ pan. Bake at 350 degrees fro 20 minutes. Cool completely.
Second Layer:
16 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2 cups Cool WhipBlend cream cheese and sugar with cool whip. Spread on top of bottom layer.
Third Layer:
3 – 3 oz. packages Jell-O Instant Pudding
4-1/2 cups milkMix well. Pour on top of dessert.
Fourth Layer:
Spread the remainder of two 8 ounce Cool Whip containers on top of the Jell-O layer. Refrigerate until serving.
One of my favorite aspects about this dessert is that it can be made in a variety of different flavors according to your family’s preferences. In this instance, I used lemon Jell-O, but you could also use chocolate, butterscotch, pistachio, or any other instant pudding flavor.
