Summer Reading Programs

Summer Reading Programs

by Katie on June 3, 2014

Even though my kids are more than happy to put away textbooks, rulers, pencils, and worksheets for the summer, I still encourage them read each day throughout summer vacation.  Rainy mornings, hot afternoons, and lazy stay-at-home days are all perfect opportunities to read during the summer.

To encourage my younger kids to keep reading all summer, I make sure to sign them up for the numerous reading programs that are available.  These programs offer a wonderful incentive for kids to keep reading and enable them to earn fun prizes along the way.

BAM

Children can earn a free Theodore Boone pencil case and pencil from the BAM Reading Program.  Children will need to read 6 books through August 16th, complete the reading form, and return it to their local BAM store location.

Barnes & Noble

Children can join the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program to earn a free book this summer.  In order to earn their free book, children need to read any 8 books this summer.  They can then bring their completed Imagination’s Destination Journal to a Barnes & Noble store location between May 20th and September 2nd to receive their free book.

Book Adventure

Book Adventure motivates children in kindergarten through 8th grade to read throughout the year.  Kids can search for books on the Book Adventure site, read them offline, and then come back to the site to take a quiz on the material they’ve read.  Plus, kids can earn prizes for reading as well.

Half Price Books

Half Price Books is once again offering kids their Feed Your Brain Summer Reading Program.  Children are invited to read for at least 15 minutes a day throughout June and July. Once a child has read for 300 minutes, they can turn in their completed reading log to earn a free $5 Half Price Books Bookworm Bucks reading reward for the month.  This promotion is valid for children ages 14 and under.

Pottery Barn Kids

Children who read 6 titles from the Pottery Barn Kids recommended reading list by July 31st can earn a free book this summer (supplies are limited).  Plus, Pottery Barn Kids is also offering a weekly story time with healthy snacks, character appearances, activities, and giveaways.  Be sure to check your local store for the dates and times of these events.

Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is once again featuring their summer reading program. This program began June 1st and runs through July 31st. Each age level (Preschool, Kids, Teens, and Adults) has their own set of prizes they can receive. You can sign up for this program on the library’s website.

TD Bank

TD Bank wants to encourage children to read this summer while also stressing the importance of saving money.  Children need to read 10 books, fill out the summer reading form, and return it to their nearest TD Bank location to receive $10 in a new or existing young saver account.
