I have been following you forever! I love the layout of your coupon matchups and you have helped me save so much money.

I have to ask though, what happened when you switched your website from blogger? I can’t see the whole post in my reader feed any more. I check it every day from there, and the new site takes forever to load on my computer. Is there anything I can do to see your whole posts in my reader? It would really be much easier for me.

Thanks again for all of your work, I really appreciate it!

admin March 2, 2011 at 10:26 pm

Hi Sarah –

I apologize for the technical issues with the new site. I am currently working with the designers of the site to improve these aspects, and make the site more user-friendly. It’s my hope that these issues will be ironed out within this next week, and everything will be running as it should. Thanks for your patience!

peggy kleinert March 1, 2011 at 12:49 am

I enjoy your website and would like to get the updates emailed to me but I don’t see the link to do so.

Can you put me on your list?

I love your new website. It looks great! Did you do this yourself?

admin March 2, 2011 at 1:29 pm

Thanks, Debbie! I can’t take credit for the design – Designer Blogs designed the new look, and I’ve been really pleased with everything they’ve done!

You have made my life so much easier! I used to comb through all the weekly ads and coupons and figure this stuff out all by myself. Now I just look at your site and you have done all the work for me. You have saved me so much time and your information is always accurate. I love your site. Thanks for all your hard work.

Katie April 5, 2011 at 9:39 pm

k bailey May 18, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Yesterday, my Kroger store informed me I could not use a coupon on reduced/manager’s special items. Has this happened to you? Anyway I wrote them about it and this is what I said-

During my visit to my local Kroger store yesterday (5/17/11), the cashier informed me that I could not use a manufacturer’s coupon on an item I was purchasing because the item had been discounted for quick sale.

The specifics of the situation is that I purchased 2 boxes of Stonyfield squeezable yogurt. These 2 boxes were discounted/manager’s special because they expire on 5/20/11. They were each marked $0.89 and I had one coupon for $0.50 off one box.

I think this policy is wrong since the manufacturer is to reimburse Kroger for coupon face amount no matter what price Kroger sells this item for. Kroger accepts coupons for sale items and even for closeout items, not just for full-price items. Accepting my coupon should not be dependent upon whether this item is marked for quick sale.

Thank you for your time,
Mrs. Bailey

I stopped and found Belmont Premium Ice Cream, buying one with fewer fat calories(fat free please!). This just might be the best ice cream that I have had in a really, really long time! Thank you!!! Stay well and have a good day!

Hi Katie

I am really excited to share with you what I am doing with my Green Lake Moms group and Green Lake Moms deal site and let you know how you can have your own daily deal site.

Here is a little about me: I started a group for moms in my neighborhood when I moved to Seattle 6 years ago. It is now up to over 1700 women who all live within a 2 mile radius (of my neighborhood- Green Lake). This last Fall I was approached by a new company called Deal Co-op to start offering Daily Deals to my group. I said I would try it out and it has been a huge success for me. Our group was kind of a beta test for existing moms groups and they are super excited about what I have done. This has been a very easy and seamless process to get this going. I am now helping other mom groups, sites and blogs that want to do the same.

The founders of Deal Co-op are super fired about working with moms and will soon be launching mom deal sites across the US through partnerships with existing mom organizations, groups and blogs (like yours and mine). The sites will fall under the umbrella of a new site they are developing called

Deal Co-op has developed a software similar to Groupon and Living Social. They do all that work on the back end. The difference is they have partners (like me and you) that already have their own very specific group/site. I partner with local businesses to bring my moms awesome deals. The businesses like partnering with me better because it is safer and more targeted. You can see some of my previous deals and what we are running right now on my site at You can also learn more about how it all works at .

I have attached some additional information to this email about how starting a Deal Moms site works. If you are interested in this idea please let me know and we can figure out at time to talk or schedule a call with Deal Co-op’s CEO, Nate Schmidt. We have already signed up four other groups/sites here in Seattle (Queen Anne, Madrona, Bellevue and Parent Map Magazine and a about 15 others across the country. You could have your own Deal Moms site ready to run your first deal within a few weeks.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Warm regards,
Melissa Benaroya
(mom to Maya 6 and Shane 4)

Absolutely!! It’s so good to hear from you :)

Katie December 29, 2011 at 9:51 am

Hello Katie!

I’ve been following our blog for a while now and am always impressed. I’ve been wanting to start my own blog for mothers, with topics ranging from kids crafts to recepies, and from organization to adult crafts, while keeping things frugal, of course! I was hoping that you could give me a few pointers. If you have a few minutes, I’d love to get an email from you, and possibly pick your brain about some ideas.
Thank you so much!!

I am writing to request that you please remove the “Free Red Bull” post from your website as this offer is no longer valid and is setting false expectations for consumers.

We appreciate your quick attention to this matter.

Best Wishes,

Hi Katie ,
I am a long time reader of your blog. I have occasionally post comments and have emailed you one other time over the couple of years I have been a fan of your site. I have copied and attached to this email post I read on Southernsavers, another money saving blog.
This month in January it is free to sign up on be the match, a bone marrow donation site that saves lives. I thought it would be a great time for lots of people to join since it is free just this month and normally 100.00 to register. Thank you for all that you do on your site and keeping us posted on all the awesome deals!!
Thank You,
Tammy Aberman

As a former nurse for kids with pediatric cancer, I am excited to share that during the month of January you can join the National Marrow Donor Registry for FREE.
Normally it costs $100 to offset the lab costs, but right now the American Express Foundation is paying for anyone that registers during January!
I urge everyone to consider joining the registry. It takes 1 minute to get set up online, and then within a week you will get a kit in the mail. Your lab kit is very simple, just swab the inside of your check with a cotton swab that they send, and then mail it back (in a prepaid envelope).
I’ve been part of the registry now for the past 4 years. I’ve never had a call that I was needed, but I would love to help someday if I did match someone that needed it. As a donor you would spend an afternoon in the hospital, with an IV and nothing more than what you would do donating blood. You’ll be back to full steam the next day, and your body will completely recover and make new marrow within a few weeks.
There are so many patients just waiting to hear that a match is out there. Having actually set kids up and spent the day with them as these transplants happen, I long for every person to help.
I know some of you don’t want to, that’s cool. For everyone else that is even a bit interested, head over and read about the registry and how easy it is to help.

oops i didn’t mean for my last name and phone number to be on there…can you please delete that…sorry.

Hi Katie,

I just found out about a new company that is sending out coupons and specials via text messages and I want to know what you thought about it. You sign up to get message about things that are of interest to you and then they pay you 5 cents to receive the text messages. Seems to good to be true. See what you think –

I’m new to couponing but I love your site. I don’t know if I will ever make it to the extreme couponing show but I’m starting to get a little stock pile.

Kate Sorensen February 13, 2012 at 11:08 am

Hi Katie,

I am interested in doing a guest post for your site. If you have anything coming up that you need a filler for I’d be very interested and can write on anything you’d like. I generally like to write about frugality, holidays, or even a $10 dinner recipe (with pictures) and can be flexible on word count to whatever you’d wish.

Thanks, in advance!

I was dissapointed when I went into the store to buy some soft top cookies and found you are no longer carrying the apple cinnamon soft top at the Auburn In. store and also that you want to discontinue the orange cranberry soft top. I know for a fact that both of these are extremly good items and on demand by many customers. Can you tell me of any other kroger stores that would be in a 50 mile radius that will carry them. If not would you please keep them available in the Auburn In. store.

Sandy October 9, 2012 at 12:35 pm

Hi, I have a question on the 10/7/2012 CVS deal for Skittles and Starburst 4/$2. Is this a national deal? I read that it didn’t say it in the weekly ad and when I went to my store it didn’t say it, and didn’t ring up at $0.50 but I only tried one so if I did 4 would it ring up as $2? I explain things confusingly sorry:( but hopefully you can help me with this question:)

Hannah Hannon October 29, 2012 at 12:55 pm

Katie, I loved reading your matchups for Kroger. I moved to Louisville and sadly, the sales are not the same! Do you have any blogging friends that post the sales from my area?

Katie October 30, 2012 at 7:51 am

I searched around, and it looks like Southern Savers posts Kroger deals that are specific to the Louisville area. You can also try Hot Coupon World. It’s more of a forum than a blog, but they post deals specific to the Louisville area on a weekly basis as well. I hope this helps!

MIKE February 1, 2013 at 11:29 am

Any comment on the new Kroger coupon doubling policy?

Katie February 1, 2013 at 12:45 pm

Honestly, I’m disappointed to see this change come to the Cincinnati/Dayton region. So many families are already struggling to make ends meet, and this will make it even harder for families to stretch their grocery shopping dollars.

I saw an email from yesterday regarding a Swingline laminator on sale at Amazon. I contacted Amazon as the price has gone up and they said to contact you (as a third-party seller, although I’m not sure that’s what you are). Is there a way to either purchase one a few hours late or be notified when one goes on sale again? Not sure if you are the end of the line or if you can pass me along to someone else. THANK YOU!

Katie August 27, 2013 at 9:04 pm

Hi Marlo –

Unfortunately, this was an Amazon Lightning Deal. These deals are only valid for a limited time and once they are sold out, the price goes back up. I am not a third-party seller, rather I post the deals as I find them on Amazon and other sites to help my readers find great bargains that are helpful to them and their families. If this item goes on sale again, I’ll be sure to post it.

Being a fellow saver, I’m sure there are many people like me that hate to see good coupons go into the trash after they have reached their expiration date. I don’t know how many people realize that they can send their old manufacturer coupons overseas to military bases for their use. Military members are able to use the coupons six months past the expiration dates in the military grocery stores to save money. Since moving from Cincinnati to Puerto Rico, I have come to appreciate and rely on these types of coupons. If anyone is interested in helping out the military, they are more than welcome to look up the information online or feel free to mail them to the below address. Megan July 1, 2015 at 2:07 pm

Hi Katie!

It might seem a little silly to start thinking about the holidays in July, but they will be here before you know it and last thing you or your readers want is to be stressed about money at the last minute, still trying to figure out a holiday gift, party, etc. list, and/or wondering how to afford all of those items on the list.

That is why CompareCards created free printable savings sheets ( that easily allows people to plug in the amount they think they’ll need for all of their holiday items and tells them how much they will need to save each week to reach their goal before the holidays. (Way before the holidays so they can partake in those early sales.) The savings sheets also include space to make a holiday gift list (cause we all know who really does the gift planning/buying) so the outlining can start now! Additionally, a printable is included for a jar or envelope, wherever people decide to stash their cash.

A lot of people are still trying to pay off holiday debt from last year so CompareCards is running their second Shred Your Debt contest ( They will be awarding two lucky winners $2,500 or $1,500 to help pay off their credit card debt. All people have to do is answer a few quick multiple choice questions about credit cards and spending, which will remain completely anonymous, and they will be entered to win.

Lastly, if you’re a Pinterest junkie, like the rest of us, then check out some additional savings tips and tricks on the CompareCards Christmas on A Budget Pinterest page (
