Simple Truth Products Review

by Katie on January 12, 2018

As I mentioned last week, I have had the opportunity to review a variety of products from Kroger’s Simple Truth Product line during the month of January.  Exclusive to the Kroger Company of stores, this product line features organic, free from, and natural foods.

The box I received from Kroger was filled with food, personal care, and baby care items. My family and I enjoyed trying out the products this past week, and have several new favorites. So, in no particular order, here’s a breakdown of the items we received:

So I’m not gonna lie….snacks don’t last long around our household, especially with four kids! The kids decided to dig into the chips and salsa first. I loved the blue corn tortilla chips. They had an amazing flavor, and were salty enough without being too salty.

As for the salsa, it had a very good flavor, but I was surprised how spicy it was for being labeled as mild. I’m not a big fan of spicy foods, so this salsa wouldn’t be my first pick, although my husband and kids enjoyed it.

I’m not very picky when it comes to bottled water. In fact, I tend to prefer tap water over anything bottled. But my kids on the other hand, are a whole different story. They love bottled water, and they definitely liked the Simple Truth water with electrolytes. I personally liked how sturdy the bottle itself was – it makes it more durable for school lunches and outings.

So, I know that rice cakes are one of those love ’em or hate ’em kind of items, but our family is definitely in the “love ’em” category. These rice cakes were honestly the best rice cakes I’ve ever tried. The flavor was spot on, and I was thrilled that they only had 2 grams of sugar per serving –  a huge plus in my book!

Okay….I’d love to rave about the seltzer water, but here’s the thing…none of us are big fans of seltzer water. My daughter tried it and although she said the flavor was good, she just couldn’t get past the “fizziness” of it! So, moving on….

I liked the apple cinnamon granola bar. It had a nice flavor and texture, but to be quite honest, with 12 grams of sugar, it wouldn’t necessarily be my first pick for a snack.

These granola clusters were phenomenal! I enjoyed them so much that I added them to my energy bites for a little added flavor and crunch. It’s a fairly simple recipe that only requires a handful of ingredients:

2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup flax seeds or sesame seeds
2 tablespoons honey

Combine all ingredients. Place in refrigerator for 30-45 minutes until chilled. Roll into balls and store in fridge.

The granola clusters were an amazing addition to this recipe. They gave the energy bites and added burst of flavor that my daughter and I loved!

So, these were hands-down the cutest snack crackers I’ve ever seen! Who doesn’t love cheddar crackers shaped like kangaroos?! These and the fruit snacks (sorry, those were eaten before I had a chance to snap a picture of them), would certainly be front runners for the kids’ lunches and snacks.

Even though I don’t have little ones at my house anymore, I still feel like wipes are a must. They’re so convenient to have on hand for quick clean-ups, spills, and messes. I really liked these wipes. They clean up well, and unlike some wipes, they don’t have an overpowering scent to them.

I’d love to say that I was able to score this lip balm, but I’ve found that when you live with a “tweenage” girl, she snags these kinds of items pretty quickly. I did however, get to smell the lip balm, and I like the strawberry scent. She loves the lip balm, and it even scored a place on her bench next to her bed which is a pretty high honor for a personal care item!

You guessed it…my daughter stole this one too, although she’s good at sharing! The lotion has a nice fresh lemony scent to it, and it doesn’t leave your hands feeling greasy, which is a big plus in my book.

Okay…so these freeze-dried cinnamon apples had a good flavor, but I’m just really a fresh fruit kind of girl. So, these didn’t make it into my favorites category.

My husband tried the beef jerky, and he enjoyed the teriyaki flavor. I was surprised to see that it has 12 grams of protein per serving, which makes it a great afternoon pick-me-up kind of snack.

Of course, I don’t have any little ones, and as hard as I tried, I couldn’t convince any of my kids to try a fruit and veggie puree! I’m planning to give this pouch to my friend, and I have no doubt that her 2-year old will give it a rave review!

And last but not least, the bread! I was really impressed with the nutritional facts on this bread…3 grams of protein, 90 calories, and only 1 gram of sugar per slice! And to top it off, it tasted amazing! I’d happily add this product to my grocery list!

So there you have it….a run down of all the Simple Truth products our family tried this week. Overall, I was really impressed with the brand, and look forward to trying more products in the future.

DaySpring: Rise Up Devotional Kit

by Katie on May 24, 2017

DaySpring has outdone themselves once again with their Rise Up Devotional Kit!  This kit asks us to step out in faith to do what God is calling us to do.

The timing of this kit couldn’t be more appropriate.  In a season of graduations, weddings, and the conclusion of school years around the country, it’s a time when we are all asked to step out and step up….to take on new challenges, new adventures, and new chapters of our lives.

It can be incredibly overwhelming to leave the haven of what feels safe and familiar to step into the unknown.  We have to take a leap of faith to trust in God’s plan, especially when we’re walking into the darkness of uncertainty, and it requires us to put our faith in God and trust that He will fill in the gaps with His unending grace.

In short, we are asked to be courageous, to rise up with the heart of a warrior, and to embrace God’s promises each day as we strive to live the life we are called to lead.

The Rise Up Kit includes:

  • 1 plastic pouch
  • 1 devotional booklet
  • 1 clear stamp collection
  • 1 roll of washi tape
  • 1 sheet of cut-out paper pieces
  • 2 cardstock sticker sheets
  • 3 tip-ins
  • 1 magnet
  • 1 thank you card from Shanna

You can purchase the Rise Up Kit from DaySpring for $29.99.

I’m loving the whimsical nature of this month’s devotional kit from DaySpring.  The Doodles to Live By Kit centers on our stories…the paths we’ve walked, the experiences we’ve lived, and the chapters of our life that we’ve written throughout the passage of time.

I like the connection between the idea of doodling and our daily lives.  Doodles aren’t exactly works of art.  They’re messy, often started unexpectedly, and many times they lack a full sense of completion.  Enter our lives…stage right.  Our lives are messy, many experiences and adventures are started when we least expect them, and sometimes we can’t come full circle on all of our expectations.

But luckily for us, we have a God who loves messy….who takes what we see as incomplete, unfinished, and chaotic and makes it beautiful….who turns our doodles into breathtaking masterpieces.

It never ceases to amaze me that we have a God who allows us to doodle in our life, to try our best and fail, and still gives us the grace we need to close the gap.  How truly blessed we are!

The Doodles to Live By Kit includes:

  • 1 plastic pouch
  • 1 devotional booklet
  • 1 clear stamp collection
  • 1 roll of washi tape
  • 1 sheet of cut-out paper pieces
  • 2 cardstock sticker sheets
  • 3 tip-ins
  • 1 magnet
  • 1 thank you card from Shanna

You can purchase the Doodle to Live By Kit from DaySpring for $29.99.

With spring just beginning to peek around the corner, this month’s devotional kit seems to have a very fitting theme.  The Heart that Receives Kit can eloquently be summed up by a quote from the booklet….“While we do not know what the future holds, we do know who holds the future.”

Wow!  What a reassuring message that holds so very much truth.  This kit came at such a fitting time for me personally.  This past year has been a year of many transitions with one son in college, one son in high school, and two younger children still at home for school.

It’s been a year of juggling schedules, managing routines, and adjusting to the reality that my little ones are gradually growing into adults with roles and responsibilities of their own.  That’s why my favorite part of this set was the bookmark with a bible verse that hit me at my very core….”You were born for such a time as this.” ~Esther 4:14.

Of course I was….God knew exactly where I would be this year….in the midst of turmoil, uncertainty, and moments of feeling completely overwhelmed.  But God also knew that He would be right beside me….taking every step with me along the way.  Which is why I can embrace the bible verse on the other bookmark in this set….”Be strong and courageous” from Joshua 1:6.

God never promised that it would be easy, but He did promise to walk the past, present, and future with me.  That’s all the encouragement I need to walk through the difficult days, persevere when the going gets tough, and receive the grace that I need for each day.

The Heart That Receives Devotional Kit comes with:

  • 1 plastic pouch
  • 1 devotional booklet
  • 1 clear stamp collection
  • 1 roll of washi tape
  • 1 sheet of cut-out paper pieces
  • 2 cardstock sticker sheets
  • 3 tip-ins
  • 1 magnet
  • 1 thank you card from Shanna

You can purchase the Heart That Receives Kit from DaySpring for $29.99.

kit-5

DaySpring has outdone themselves with their  newest Illustrated Faith devotional kit.  This month’s theme is one I absolutely love…..Free to Flourish.

kit-4

This theme speaks volumes to my heart.  On a large scale, of course God calls us to freedom through faith in him.  But what I love most about this devotional kit is the reminder that God calls us to freedom in the minute, small moments of our lives…..all those everyday moments that feel monumental on a day to day basis.

kit-3

Freedom from fear…freedom from shame….freedom from insecurity….freedom from comparison….freedom from discontentment.

kit-2

But it’s more that just what we’re free from.  This set also focuses on what we’re free to do.  Free to laugh….free to thrive….free to forgive….free to dream.

kit-1

It’s a stunning reminder that the same God who created the heavens and earth, also care about my dreams, my insecurities, my fears, and my everyday, every moment happiness.

But that’s not the only new item from DaySpring this month!  Check out their newest creation….the Illustrated Faith Organization Bag.

bag-5

This bag is as stylish as it is functional.  Featuring a bright, eye-catching pattern, the bag has a generous amount of space for Bible journaling tools and supplies and it even includes a Bible verse from Ecclesiastes…”He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

bag-4

The bag has side zippers which allows it to open completely flat.

bag-3

It also has a variety of storage options, including two removable zipper pouches.

bag-2

Since it’s made of matte oilcloth, it’s easy to clean with just a damp cloth.

bag-1

And it easily accommodates most journaling Bibles as well as plenty of supplies.

DaySpring has their Illustrated Faith Craving Connections Kit on sale for $29.99 and their Illustrated Faith Organization Bag on sale for $40.  Plus, when you enter the coupon code 25FORYOU, you’ll save 25% off your order, and you’ll even receive free shipping!

Super League Gaming Review: Part 2

by Katie on February 23, 2017

super-league-end

As many of you know, our son attended the Minecraft Super League Gaming event at our local theater last summer and absolutely loved the experience.  So, when we found out that the event was returning to theaters this past fall, we jumped at the chance for him to participate again.

super-league-2

With this new season of Super League Gaming, he reconnected with friends he had met in the first session, and they worked together to maneuver their way through the many games, mini-games, and creations throughout the course of the event.

buld-mode

For instance, in build mode, players work together to build on their plot of land.  Imagination and creativity are key here, and the winning team takes home the points.

free-build

In Zombies, teams work against each other to beat the onslaught of zombies that have overtaken the Metropolis.

In Walls, teams of players spend a limited amount of time collecting resources for their team’s use.  Once the time has elapsed, the walls fall down, and the teams must work to capture the other teams’ polar bears.

There were even mini games, such as soccer, where players could compete against each other for points.

At the conclusion of each section of play, a podiums screen was displayed to show the standings of each team that has competed.

It’s a fun and friendly competition, and it enables kids to work collaboratively on a creative pursuit.  I’m sure the next time Super League Gaming comes back to Cincinnati, our son will be one of the first ones to sign up!
